What Is Gluten Free?

What Is Gluten Free?

Some people can’t eat gluten for medical reasons, but a lot of people in Los Angeles don’t eat gluten because someone in their yoga class told them not to. Jimmy Kimmel wondered how many of these people even know what gluten is, so he sent a camera crew out to a popular exercise spot in LA and asked people who are gluten-free a simple question: “What is gluten?” #PedestrianQuestion

Joe:

I feel sorry for your customer service people that you have to deal with a lot of random complaints from people related to gluten-free stuff. If people can claim that “Olive Garden is discriminating against people with gluten allergies”, then if you follow that same logic, they should go a step further and say that the entire country of Italy is behind a oppressive regime aimed at discriminating against people with Celiac.
It’s Italian cuisine! Perhaps you can argue that it’s a restaurant’s responsibility to have gluten free options, but it is NOT their responsibility to make sure every single item on the entire menu has a gluten substitute. Especially the free stuff.
I’m just saying that: if I had diabetes, I wouldn’t complain to the owner of a candy store for not having a sugar-free version of every item they have in stock.

Susanne:

I would love to take advantage of the NeverEndingPasta Bowl… do you offer any glutenfree pasta at all? What about a gluten-free menu? Or gluten-free bread?

Olive Garden:

Hi Susanne, our Never Ending Pasta Bowl special does not include any gluten-free items. We recommend contacting your local Olive Garden as substitutions may be made at the manager’s discretion. All our gluten-free menu items can be viewed here: http://www.olivegarden.com/Menu/Gluten-Allergen/. Thanks!

Susanne:

Thank you! So I’m assuming then that it will be ok to bring my own gluten-free bread? Why does your NEPB special not include gluten-free pasta? I didn’t ask for this disease and feel discriminated from being able to parttake in special offers. If you offer specials, I think it should include everybody.

Yes, Susanne…Olive Garden is discriminatory towards people with gluten allergies, lactose intolerant allergies, along with vegans, non-italians, and any other person who this deal does not cater to…

When will they learn that the world revolves around YOU! Shame on you Olive Garden! 😉
