Could My Server Act More Black Please?

beblack
All my life I have been told that I speak like a white man and present myself as a white man….that I am simply not black enough….what exactly does that mean? Last night was not an exception. Last night, I waited on a rude couple (African American) who at the end of their dining experience, decided to write me this on the check. I was so shocked that all I could do was laugh…not laugh at the check itself but their sheer stupidity. The sad thing is the mentality comes from expectations of a negative stereotype of a black man from another black man but cry wolf if another man of another ethnicity calls out the negative actions. I am a human being first and foremost who also happens to be of African American decent. My focus in life isn’t “being black “…its being a good human being….to God and myself and the people in my life! A man by definition, is supposed to be courageous, have a sense of morals and responsibility….a man of compassion….great compassion…to immerse oneself in education and face the challenges in life head on with the will of God! So I am not black enough? Okay well….I am black enough for me but I am a great man! A gentleman! And I really pray that there will come a day when the whole world wakes up! My name is Lamont Reed, I am a man of compassion and I am proud of me and who I am….I am proud to just be me and show love to my friends and families of all ethnicities and I even have my own flag to wave…my big L flag! For Lamont, of course.
