Signed The Black Guy

After receiving bad service, a customer left this unexpected note and tip behind for his server…

Note Reads:

Dear Patricia T,

I am attempting to show you more kindness and attention than you showed me today. I have also arranged to buy your meal during your shift with your manager as well. I was once a server and I know it sucks! I had crappy days and bad tippers but never gave attitude. It was always about guarding my words and actions and rising to the job I was hired to do. Take the money and buy a snickers.

“The black guy they sat in your section and you didn’t want to serve because the don’t tip”

Have you ever adjusted your service based on a stereotype?

My coworkers and me in the weeds…

When a customer bitches about not being able to order from the lunch menu at 5pm…

When the POS System keeps freezing up on me…

When someone tells me I should be okay with not getting tipped after giving great service…

When I have to work the morning shift and haven’t had my coffee yet…

If a coworker asks me if I’m okay during a rush…

What a demanding customer may as well say to all of the other customers in the restaurant…

What I want to say to the coworker who always has some dramatic story to talk about on every shift…

How customers act about free bread (but not as cute)…

When I have to work on Christmas Day…

When a customer is a complete asshole to me for his entire meal and then his card declines when he tries to pay…

Server Calls Out Dine And Dasher On Facebook

Lydia: I normally don’t post much on Facebook I try to be pretty positive and post things I find interesting rather then confrontational or negative but I am BEYOND livid. So last night I waited on this young couple and I made sure they had everything they needed and normal server stuff. I recognized the girl because we went to the same high school and probably have mutual friends some where down the line. Well they got there entrées and so I left them to enjoy it. I filled up there waters a few times but they seemed fine. Next thing I know they are gone. The first table I have ever had to dine and dash. Knowing who the girl was I contacted her via. Facebook and her response is infuriating. I was completely nice and understanding and she was awful. I am a full time student and on top of that this semester I am doing an opera that requires me to lose a full week of work which is extremely stressful. So to have someone this ignorant come and tell me it’s my fault that she left without paying is baffling.

What Can I Do About A Server Who Never Tips Out?

Dear IYCATT-ers,
So I’ve been working at the same restaurant for almost 8 years and became a bartender there about a year ago. It’s always been customary that the servers tip the bar 10% of their bar sales and most everyone does. But we have one server who has been there for a couple of years who refuses to tip! She started out as a host and togo, but started serving for a few months now.  She doesn’t even tip her busser! She says by law she doesn’t have to tip! True, she doesn’t. She busses all of her own tables so she feels she doesn’t have to tip her busser, which is fine. However, she upsells more alcohol and flavored teas than anyone in the whole restaurant, which is great, but she does not tip out her bar! Ever! To top it off she’s one of those servers who, no matter how busy the bartenders are, will come stand right there asking for her drinks! This has been brought to her attention several times and her response is always the same…”we’re all here to make money and by law I don’t have to tip anyone!”

Has anyone else ever have to deal with someone like this? Any thoughts and/or suggestions on how to deal with it?
